CAMPUS FOR PILOT TESTING, DEVELOPMENT, AND DEMONSTRATION OF 5G MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE INTERNET OF THINGS AND CONNECTED MACHINES APPLIED TO LOGISTICS
Provisional resolution of the award of the grant for the Pilot Test Campus, Development and Demonstration of 5G Mobile Technologies for the Internet of Things and Connected Machines Applied to Logistics project, from the call of the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, which called in advance, in the 2020 financial year, grants to finance R&D&I infrastructures and equipment for the period 2021-2022 that could be financed by the FEDER Operational Programme. (Published on 14-05-2021 on the website of the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society).
In which the subsidy of 596.478,09 € is granted for this project which we have called Campus 5G II, with reference IDIFEDER/2021/088 for the execution period 01/01/2021 to 31/12/2021 and whose principal investigator is Professor David Gómez Barquero of the Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
This project aims to deploy an experimental field of 5G Mobile Technologies for the Internet of Things and Connected Machines using the current infrastructure available by the MCG of iTEAM of the UPV, especially with regard to the 5G Campus equipment obtained thanks to the VLC-5G project: PILOT TESTING, DEVELOPMENT and DEMONSTRATION of 5th GENERATION (5G) MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES (IDIFEDER/2018/030) awarded in 2018, thus considering this project as the continuation and extension of the previous project. The new equipment added to these infrastructures will allow pioneering tests of 5G-IoT connected machines related to the world of Logistics and Industry 4.0 in general, with practical use cases applied to process improvements in the port of Valencia. It should be noted that the VLC-Campus-5G has 5G Release-15 equipment (the first version of the standard), while the 5G equipment requested in this grant corresponds to the second version of the Release-16 standard, which was completed in June 2020, and which includes the mMTC (massive-Machine-Type Communications) and URRLC (Ultra-Reliable-Low-Latency Communications) functionalities that are fundamental for the Internet of Things and the connection of machines.
Thus, launch the Campus 5G II project at the MCG of iTEAM of the UPV!
