The Port of Cartagena hosted a unique day of cetaceans watching, organized as part of the Life PortSounds Project, in which the Signal Processing Group (GTS) of the Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications Institute (iTEAM) from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is involved.
The five-hour event featured marine fauna and cetacean conservation experts, offering attendees an exceptional opportunity to learn and observe.
This activity was organized by the Cartagena Port Authority (APC) in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), the iTEAM of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), and the Naval and Marine Technology Center (CTN). Participants were divided among three boats from the company Cetáceos y Navegación: the Karyam, Nashira, and Getari. During the trip through the Mediterranean, attendees had the chance to observe striped dolphins, initially elusive but eventually approaching the bows of the vessels.
This event is part of a series of actions led by the Life PortSounds Project to raise awareness of the abundance of dolphins and the harmful impact of excessive underwater noise on them.
