Photonics Research Labs (PRL)

The Photonics Research Labs (PRL) boasts a team of over 40 researchers and has established itself as an international leader in the field of photonics. Its mission, focused on research excellence and technology transfer, has positioned the PRL at the forefront of key areas such as microwave photonics and programmable photonics. This global leadership is evidenced by remarkable achievements, including the attainment of five European Research Council (ERC) grants, the PERTE Chip PIC-UPV Chair, and the recent selection by the European Commission of the PIXeurope project to lead the European pilot line for photonic chips.

The main active research areas at the PRL include programmable photonics, photonic integrated circuits, advanced fiber optic sensors, optical wireless communications and networks, and specialized multicore optical fibers.

In terms of technology transfer, the PRL stands out for its entrepreneurial spirit, with three successful spin-off companies currently active: VLC Photonics, CalSens, and iPronics.
