Narcís Cardona, director of the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and a member of the Mobile Communications Group (MCG), was one of the prominent guests on the special program “2025: The Future Is Already Here,” aired on Hoy por Hoy Comunitat Valenciana. During the broadcast, key technological advancements expected to define 2025 and their impact on the Valencian Community were discussed.
In his remarks, Narcís Cardona pointed out that although 5G networks are fully developed, their applications have not yet been utilized effectively. According to him, 2025 will be a pivotal year for the realization of these advancements, particularly in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT). This progress will enable more secure and robust communications, as well as innovative applications like holographic communications.
Cardona highlighted the transformative impact of 5G in sectors like remote work, by providing faster and more reliable connections, and telemedicine, where it will enable advances in remote diagnostics and simple tests. However, he cautioned that more complex applications, such as remote surgeries, are still in the early stages of development.
In addition to analyzing the present, Narcís Cardona shared a vision of the future with the next generation of networks, 6G, which is expected to be deployed around 2030. These networks promise to further revolutionize communications, expanding technological horizons toward applications that are barely imaginable today.
The region is positioning itself as a leader in the research and application of advanced communication technologies, thanks to the work of institutions like iTEAM and experts like Narcís Cardona.
