Call for Applications: Artistic Residency in the Mobile Communications Group at iTEAM

The Vice-Rectorate for Art, Science, Technology, and Society at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), with support from the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) and the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, in collaboration with the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) at UPV, announces a call for applications for an artistic residency within the Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of iTEAM. The initiative also involves the Faculty of Fine Arts of Sant Carles at UPV, aiming to foster projects that merge art and technology through interdisciplinary approaches.

The call invites artists to explore the intersection of art and technology in the field of mobile communications. The convergence of technology and art is profoundly transforming how we perceive the modern world. Today, technological tools enable artists to delve into new dimensions of expression, from artificial intelligence and augmented reality to generative art. This fusion not only drives aesthetic innovations but also facilitates social critiques that address contemporary issues such as digital identity, privacy, and the impact of technology on daily life.

This project seeks to reflect on the role of these technologies in today’s society and to encourage critical perspectives that embrace diverse identities. One of its main objectives is to integrate an intersectional vision into scientific and technical artistic practices, promoting collaborative exploration between art and science.

The residency offers financial support of up to:

  • €3,000 for the artist.
  • €8,500 for production costs.
  • €2,500 to cover travel, accommodation, and living expenses.

If this proposal interests you, applications are open until January 5, 2025. The required application materials include:

  1. A short video (1 minute) where the artist explains their motivation for the residency.
  2. Description of the proposed artistic project and its research focus.
  3. Brief description of expectations for collaboration with scientists and required resources.
  4. Project production plan with a timeline and estimated budget.
  5. CV and portfolio of previous work.
  6. Completed application form.

This residency offers a unique opportunity for artists interested in blending art and technology, contributing to the research lines of the Mobile Communications Group (MCG) while fostering a critical dialogue on the societal impact of mobile communications.
