Nowadays 3G and 4G mobile systems are heading service saturation, so new paradigms that would obtain 100 times the current systems’ capacity have to be addressed. One of the most promising techniques is the use of cooperation and coordination between multiple access points in order to manage the interference transmitted when serving multiple users. Advanced signal processing in the PHY and MAC layer have to be carefully designed in order to obtain the required performance.
